Behavior Training

Welcome to Good Canine – the premier dog training service!  We’ve been improving the lives of dogs and owners for over 45 years. No matter what kind of behavior issues your dog may be showing, we have the experience and knowledge to provide you with the right solution.

As proven leaders in our field, we have helped over 6000 dogs and counting.  Our programs provide you with everything you need to achieve responsiveness, mutual respect, and most importantly – an enhanced quality of life with your dog.  Not all dog training programs are equal.  When it comes to choosing someone to work with your best friend, make sure your trainer has the experience, education, and training philosophy that fits what you and your dog need. Since every dog is unique, we approach every training situation with great care and consideration.  We offer board-n-train and both private and group class training designed specifically for you and your dog.

Too many dogs are given up after their normal, easily modifiable behaviors are allowed to become problems, but it doesn’t have to be this way. To prevent your dog from becoming a sad statistic, bring your dog, and your family to one of our professional dog training classes.  A good training class is a fun social activity that helps your dog become a well-behaved, safe, and valued family member.

Dealing with aggression in a pet can be an emotional roller coaster.  Owners with aggressive dogs often feel anxious, frustrated, angry, fearful, sad, and everything in between. We are here to tell you, there is help and hope for canine aggression. Our programs are designed to teach owners of aggressive or reactive dogs how to safely and effectively handle their dogs in stressful situations, as well as how to significantly reduce the possibility of a dog bite. We can help you with the following types of aggression in your dog:

·       Dominance Aggression (dog-on-dog, owner-directed, & pack structure)

·       Resource Guarding (possessive aggression related to food, toys, attention, etc.)

·       Fear Aggression

·       Territorial Aggression

·       Predatory Aggression (aggression related to prey drive)

·       Redirected Aggression (displaced aggression related to a heightened state of arousal)

Our specialized behavior modification techniques will help you and your dog deal with these serious problem behaviors.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:  Why shouldn’t I just go to a big-name pet store or breed club and pay about $100 for dog training?
A:  If you wanted a great steak dinner, would you go to a fast-food restaurant? Big pet store chains are all about QUANTITY, not QUALITY.   With Good Canine, you’re paying for the very best in professional behavior modification and canine counseling. You’re not paying for quantity-driven, large group dog training classes.

Q:  How much time will this take?
A:  We offer private sessions that may only take 4 – 6 sessions, or 6 – 9 week semi-private group classes, or our new online training at your own pace.

Q:  How much work do I have to do?
A:  That depends on you and your dog.  However, most owners find that if they work with their dog for at least 20 minutes, 2 times a day, they will see results. Remember:  The team consists of 3 players – you, your dog, and your trainer.  YOU control 2/3 of the team.

Q:  How long do sessions last?
A:  Sessions generally last from 45 to 90 minutes, with one hour being the average.

Q:  How often do we come visit our behaviorist?
A:  Weekly sessions will give you the fastest results, but in today’s world, we know schedules can be hectic, so we try to be as flexible as possible.

Q:  How much will this cost?
A:  That all depends on your goal and the program you select.  We have services ranging from $55 to $1250.  Our goal is to find the service that works for you and your individual needs. Ask yourself this:  How much does a waste of time & money cost? Amateur dog trainers usually charge around $100.  They do not offer specialized behavior modification methods. Imagine paying good money and then your dog is more aggressive, destructive, obnoxious, and disobedient than before. Over 50% of the dogs we
see each year have already been to large group training classes with an amateur dog trainer. Dog Training and Behavior Modification are not the same!

Q:  What Methods of Behavior Modification do you use?
A:  We use the positive motivation method – combining positive reinforcement and humane guidance.  Our on-staff behaviorist, Linda Konrad, helped develop the techniques you will learn – they have been honed over 45 years of experience, with over 6000 dogs.  The methods are proven.  The results are reliable.

Our Training Philosophy:

Dog Training is a smart decision.  But choosing the best method of training for you and your dog can be confusing.

Our philosophy is simple.

1.  Most problem behaviors that owners report are actually normal canine behaviors that don’t fit into a human household.  So a lot of owners end up trying to fight against the dog’s natural instincts.

2.  Training methods that only correct or ignore these natural canine instincts are unfair to the dog, frustrating to the owner, and just don’t give lasting results.

3. Teaching the owner and the dog new behavior improves the relationship, manages aggression, assists with problem solving and produces enduring & reliable results.

At Good Canine, we focus on working with your dog’s natural drives and instincts to teach you the secrets of communicating with your dog!  We offer both group and private classes. In our personalized private training classes, we incorporate our own demo-dogs into the process, so you get all the benefits of distraction proofing and socialization, plus courses exclusively designed for you and your dog.  We offer ALL classes both privately and in select small groups, depending on your dog’s needs.  In our select group classes we hand pick only 3 to 5 student dogs per class, so you still get the benefits of individual attention, and your dog gets to practice around other dogs.  We teach you how to work with your dog’s individual temperament to get the best results.  Why do we train the way we do?  After 45+ years and over 6000 dogs trained… we’ve found it really works!
